Extending the Network Window

Extending the Network Window is about creating a network capacity for future parcel growth, reducing our carbon footprint and at a cost that is sustainable for Royal Mail going forward. This means using our road and rail network.

Moving to road and rail is slower and it takes longer to move our products from some parts of the country to another. Therefore, Mail Centres, RDC's and Delivery Offices need to change start and finish times to take account of the longer travel time.

The new National Workplan 2024

On Monday 17 June 24, both national and local workplans will be changed following the go live of the new Network Window across our operations.

Operational units will brief and display their new workplans so that we all understand where we fit in to help better serve our customers.

Seasonal variation

Seasonal Variation aims to better align our scheduled hours in different blocks of the year to the typical workload in those periods.

Attendance and sick pay

We provide industry-leading arrangements for managing sick absences.

While we want to look after our people who need to be away from work to manage their health, sick absence costs us more than £250 million a year. It is three times higher than the national average (source: ONS, 2022).

This is not sustainable and these changes will aim to improve attendance among the minority of colleagues who are regularly absent from work and, as a result, reduce the burden on those with an amazing attendance record.

Fleet

As Royal Mail continues to transform it is important that our Fleet Workshop network is set up to support the wider changes across the business.

To be able to compete and meet customer demands, we need to ensure staff availability to cover weekend requirements and have a remuneration structure that is competitive in the wider marketplace.
