Today’s changes
Canteen closures, key worker letters and reservist duties

We have issued further guidance to the operation regarding social distancing measures in Collections.
The latest up-to-date information and advice can be found within our Questions & Answers document at myroyalmail.com/Coronavirus.
The key changes in today's advice include:
- One person, one van rule -there should be only one person in a Royal Mail vehicle at any one time.
- Everyone should wash their hands when coming in to and leaving the office, as well as at regular times throughout the day.
- WTLL sessions are to cease and be replaced with small touchpoint huddles adhering to social distancing rules.
- Adhere to two metre social distancing guidelines for all indoor and outdoor operations, where possible.
Today’s changes also include:
- Canteens are now only available for takeaways using disposable containers and cutlery. It is vital that good hygiene is followed in canteen and self-messing facilities and, where possible, tables should be limited to one person at a time.
- Our key worker status means that if you have school-age children, they will be able to continue to attend school. Please ask your manager for the letter which confirms you are a key worker for Royal Mail. Together with your identification card, you will need to take this letter to your child(ren)’s school. You should only send your child(ren) to school or nursery if you really need to and do not have anyone who could look after them.
- Colleagues should only carry forward five days holiday at the end of the year. If due to operational reasons, managers need a colleague to attend work during leave, then in exceptional circumstances, they can agree for a colleague to return to work early and take their holiday at another time.
- Reservists can be asked to support the country in times of need without providing the normal notice. We can only request to delay or cancel a mobilisation if allowing the colleague to undertake their duties as a reservist would seriously harm our business.
