Royal Mail has won the ‘Sustainable Fleet’ Award at the 2019 Brake Fleet Safety Awards.
Road safety charity Brake announced the shortlist for its 2019 annual Fleet Safety Awards back in July. More than 40 organisations were represented within the charity’s 13 award categories, including Anglian Water, Volker Rail and British Gas, and the winners were announced at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Thursday 19 September.
Royal Mail was shortlisted for three awards in the safety category; ‘Sustainable Fleet’, ‘Company Safe Driver – Large Fleet’ and ‘Road Risk Manager of the Year’.
As well as winning the Sustainable Fleet Award, Royal Mail was also highly commended in the ‘Company Driver Safety - Large Fleet’.
Speaking after the event, Dr Shaun Davis, our global director of safety, health, wellbeing & sustainability, said: ‘We won ‘Road Risk Manager of the Year’ in 2018 and so a further win and a “highly commended” this year is further testimony to the hard work we all do at Royal Mail in the very important area of driver and road safety.
Group road safety manager Mark Bromhall, said: ‘This is fantastic recognition by the wider industry, that we are doing the right things, in the right way. The award reflects the work done by the business to safely introduce new technology and approaches which reduce our carbon footprint, whilst also protecting the safety of our drivers and the public.
‘Key factors were our introduction of e-trikes, the expansion of our electric van fleet, and the work done to improve our use of the Trimble telemetry.’
Sarah Plumb, senior fleet officer at Brake, said: ‘The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of organisations and individuals going above and beyond to prevent crashes and reduce pollution caused by vehicles used for work purposes.
‘The quality of entries was incredibly high and we would like to say a big thank you to all those who entered.’
Royal Mail Group has once again been named as the top-scoring global sustainability leader of the Transportation and Transportation Infrastructure Industry category in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices.
The business came in at number one on a list of more than 60 other organisations in the transportation sector including ground-breaking logistics businesses.
