Double whammy

Brake, the road safety charity, has recognised Royal Mail Group among other organisations for our contribution to improving the safety of at-work drivers, at its annual Fleet Safety Awards.
Royal Mail Group was one of the big winners at the ceremony, which was held last week at the Hilton Metropole in Birmingham, having been shortlisted in five of the 11 award categories, and winning both the Sustainable Journeys Award and the Road Risk Manager of the Year Award.
Royal Mail Group was shortlisted in the five below categories:
- Company Driver Safety Award - Large Fleet
- Sustainable Journeys (Environment)
- Road Safety in the Community
- Safe Vehicles
- Road Risk Manager of the Year.
We were also highly commended in the below two categories:
- Company Driver Safety Award – Large Fleet - ‘for the organisation with a total fleet size of more than 1,000 vehicles that has implemented initiatives that do most to promote and achieve safer driving among employees’
- Road Safety in the Community - ‘for the organisation that has worked hardest with its local community to improve road safety for all road users’.
And we won:
- Sustainable Journeys (Environment) - ‘for the organisation that has done the most to reduce risk and fuel emissions by introducing sustainable travel and journey routing choices, such as encouraging cycling, walking and public transport use as alternatives to driving, using environmentally friendly fuels and vehicles, and reducing transportation needs’
- Road Risk Manager of the Year – ‘for the risk or fleet manager who has implemented exemplary road risk management policies with proven results’.
Group road manager, Mark Bromhall, who won the Road Risk Manager of the Year Award, said: ‘Brake provides critical support to the families of road traffic collision victims as well as lobbying for improved standards, so I’m delighted to receive this award from them and for Royal Mail Group to have been recognised for our work on road safety.
‘This recognition reflects the efforts of many people within our business who work hard to reduce the levels of road traffic collisions. Driving for work remains one of the most risky activities that we ask our people to perform, and we will use this success as inspiration to always keep improving.’
