My Future
Working differently at Royal Mail
As we go through our working life, our home-life balance requirements can change. Whether it’s options for reducing your working hours for childcare, change your role, transfer to a unit closer to home or even being at a time of your life when you are ready to work less, Royal Mail has policies in place to help and support you in exploring the possibilities.
Royal Mail has options available for supporting employees to make temporary or permanent changes to their roles or working hours.
Summary information regarding requesting flexible working, permanent/temporary adjustments to working hours, career opportunities, transferring to a different unit/job role is available here. If you wish to view the full policy, please ask your line manager to provide you with a copy from PSP or via the People App.

- In the first instance you should speak to your line manager and confirm in writing where you want to transfer to and the reasoning.
- Your line manager can make enquiries with the unit to which you wish to transfer.
- If there is a suitable vacancy and all parties are able to accept the transfer, your line manager will inform you of the date at which you can transfer.
- Your line manager will then make the necessary changes on PSP.
- Firstly, you should refer to the RMG Flexible Working policy.
- You should speak to your line manager to understand the feasibility of reducing your hours within your unit and to talk in more detail about how to submit your Flexible Working request.
- You have 5 days on receiving the written outcome of your Flexible Working request to lodge an appeal.
- An appeal can be made if your Flexible Working request was unsuccessful and your manager did not share any alternative options or the options they did share were not appropriate.
- It may be possible for you to undertake some job shadowing/secondment. You should discuss this with your line manager.
- If you are interested in applying for another role within Royal Mail, all vacancies can be found on Success Factors
