MHAW 12-18 May 2025

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week this week and the theme is ‘Communities’.  At Royal Mail we pride ourselves on not only being part of the communities we serve but also being a community in our own right for all of our colleagues.

Being part of a positive community is vital for our mental health and wellbeing, and we thrive when we have strong connections with others and supportive communities around us.

By supporting the wellbeing of ourselves and each other, we deliver more to the communities we serve.

Mental Health is key to a healthy and long life and helps us thrive.  There are things we can do as individuals, as communities and across society, to help us all improve our mental health.  We’re delighted to partner with the Mental Health Foundation and proud to support this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week.

Paula Stannett, our Chief People Officer, welcomes this new partnership and says, “Our mental health is something we should all look after and protect and at Royal Mail we want to help our colleagues to feel able do that. Your Wellbeing and Help@Hand offer a comprehensive selection and access to services, support and guidance. Almost more importantly, we are building a community that looks after each other through campaigns such as Change for Good, and we have set clear expectations in Our Business Standards as to how we should treat each other.

The work that the Mental Health Foundation does is so important, and I delighted that we are partnering them and encourage you all to support the activity across Mental Health Awareness Week.”

Together, let’s step up for Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) 2025.

Get involved

There are many ways to get involved this year and by coming together as a work family we can create a strong community within Royal Mail.

  • Go Green campaign. Show your support for MHAW by going green for the week.  You could wear something green, go bold and light up your building green or share your support through by taking a photo of your community in a green space.

  • Download the #MHAW25 Community template and share your experiences of being part of a community and any aspirations you have. Share with your colleagues, add to your local Your Wellbeing noticeboard, post on Workplace

  • Share our Mental Health Foundation Partner toolkit and supporting resources with colleagues within your unit or team.

  • Share the Stress Bucket activity with friends, family, and colleagues.  It’s a great tool to help manage your wellbeing.

  • Mental Health Self-Management Webinar (hosted by Mental Health Foundation) - Register for this webinar is hosted by Dr David Crepaz-Keay, Mental Health Foundations’ Head of Research and Applied Learning. The session will help equip colleagues and managers with practical tools and knowledge to create a personalised, four-step mental health self-management plan. The session will focus on triggers, indicators, tactics and strategies.

  • Following on from last year’s Mental Health Workshops we’ve now launched in-house mental health workshops covering; what is mental health, spotting signs, how to have the conversation and self-care.  You can request a local workshop through Success Factors.

Support for you and your family:

Taking time to speak to someone and reach out for support is important.  All colleagues have access to Help@hand which provides access to an online GP and physiotherapy, a confidential Employee Assistance Programme where you can talk to someone for in the moment support through to something more complex, unlimited mental health consultations (subject to regular review) and 1:1 lifestyle coaching including nutrition and personal training support.

More to come on Mental Health:

In June, we will be introducing a new Suicide Prevention and Awareness programme to support those who really need support for themselves, friends, family or colleagues.
