First hand experiences

Today we talk with Advanced Engineering Apprentice, Lukas Bougas, about his experience as a Royal Mail apprentice within our Engineering team.
This week we’re celebrating National Apprenticeship Week by shining a light on some of our brilliant apprentices from around the organisation. Follow #NAW2024 on Workplace to meet other apprentices and see what vacancies we have on offer.
The incredible Lukas works as part of the Engineering team and is currently completing his Level 3 Advanced Engineering apprenticeship. We spoke to him about his journey with Royal Mail and the skills he has gained.
When asked about his education journey, Lukas said: 'I followed the education journey like any other, went to school, completed my A-levels at Sixth Form, and then took a gap year to have some time off. The opportunity then arose for me to do this apprenticeship, in which I applied and received the position.'
'Becoming an engineer has always been something that has interested me, so when the opportunity arose, I took the chance and applied. The programme was interesting and appealed to me, Royal Mail also has a large engineering sector, so this was great for me to be learning from one of the best organisations out there.'
During Lukas' time as an apprentice at Royal Mail, he has been able to pick up new skills and apply them to his role.
'Some of the skills I have learnt all correlate to my time so far as an engineer. From learning about electrical systems and how to operate them, maintenance of the equipment used as well as the use of statistics in fault finding. This allows for a smooth operation.'

Thank you for taking the time to talk to us Lukas, and best of luck with the rest of your apprenticeship!
