Black History Month 2023

What's on this October

October is Black History Month, an annual occasion which celebrates of the rich culture and history of African and Caribbean communities while recognising the invaluable contributions of Black people in the UK.

There is a variety of activities and events for all colleagues to get involved in throughout the month. You can expect live events, special food menus, book clubs and filmathons. You’ll find everything you need to know and information about the events on the Black History Month 2023 site.

This year, Black History Month is dedicating the theme to Black women – ‘Saluting our Sisters’. At Royal Mail, we are mirroring this by ‘Celebrating Black Women’ and Empowering Ethnic Minority Wellbeing.

We have an exciting month in store, packed full of employee spotlights, cultural learning, lively conversation, entertainment and more!

During this first week, you can join the virtual live event taking place on Thursday 5 October and visit the exhibition taking place in 185 Farringdon office throughout the month.

‘Over the years, EmbRace and our allies have been steadily raising awareness of issues impacting ethnic minorities in Royal Mail and globally. We believe this helps colleagues to deepen their understanding of Royal Mail’s diverse community and advocate for causes that align to their interests’ said Sasha Monique Henry-Crawford, Head of Retail Mail and EmbRace Chair

‘Our campaign will feature the faces, pearls of wisdom and key concerns impacting Black women across our business – including two timely live panel discussions.’

We encourage all colleagues to engage in some aspect of Black History during October through content on EmbRace Workplace, within your teams, sampling the cuisine from managed catering at select sites or through visiting our month-long exhibition. Everyone can find something new to learn, and it is through learning about our past and present history that we increase belonging and build a truly multi-cultural and inclusive business.

To ensure all colleagues have the opportunity to get involved with the activities this month, we need your help to spread the word. Please print this poster and display in your local offices.
