Talkin’ ‘bout generations

Each year, United Nations recognises 12 August as International Youth Day – a day we also celebrate at Royal Mail.
To help connect young colleagues across the organisation, NextGen Employee Resource Group (previously, Youth and Friends) is open to everyone - whether you’re under 30, or above with an interest in the wellbeing of young people in the organisation. This is a community to empower our next generation to have a meaningful and dynamic career journey.
Earlier this week, NextGen held a virtual launch event with guest speakers and facilitators giving an insight into the business initiatives in this area. The event also included a Q&A session with Ricky McAulay, followed by an interactive session to get valuable feedback from young people on their own experiences at Royal Mail.
Chair of NextGen, Leonie Hearnshaw shares the ERG mission: ‘We want to foster a culture of learning which accelerates career growth and development, whilst creating a sense of belonging through access to networks and mentorship.
‘We aim to activate a sense of purpose for everyone, irrespective of where they are in their life or career. Our values are simple: stronger connections, bigger opportunities, and a louder voice!’
Leonie said young people at Royal Mail need to feel connected – on a personal and professional level.
‘This ERG is keen to align our strategy and activities with the business’ goals relating to attraction and retention of young people with a real focus on connection,’ she said. ‘Building networks gives us a safe space, so we know who to turn to when we need support. Having an established network is also invaluable when it comes to thinking about your next career step.’
This launch event is the start of what’s to come. You can get involved or simply join the conversation by joining the NextGen group.
