Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre administrator Naresh Shah’s three-year-old grandson, Veer needs your help.
Veer has Fanconi Anemia, a rare but serious blood disorder that prevents his bone marrow from making enough new blood cells for his body to work normally.
Put simply, his bone marrow isn’t functioning correctly and he urgently needs to find a lifesaving stem cell/bone marrow donor.
Unfortunately, a major shortage of Asian donors means Veer’s chances of finding a suitable donor are low. By diversifying the registers, however, his chances of survival will be increased.
To give Veer the best chance of a decent match, he needs as many people as possible to get registered, regardless of their ethnicity.
You could be the one to help him survive. It’s a really easy process to get registered. If you meet the age and health criteria you will be sent a swab test in the post. All you need to do is swab your cheek in the comfort of your own home, and then send the swab back in the post. That’s it! No blood tests required.
Once you’re registered, you can be matched against any patient (globally) in need of a bone marrow transplant. If you do end up matching, you’ll have the rare opportunity to help save a life. Note that blood group is not a factor in the matching process, so even if you have a rare type, don’t let that deter you from registering.
