Pit stop heroes

Bradfields Academy students do themselves proud volunteering for Action for Children

Two students from Bradfields Academy, who are taking part in our Forward to Employment supported internships at Medway Mail Centre, had a great day volunteering for our charity partner, Action for Children.

Bradfields Academy is an innovative special educational needs and disability (SEND) school in Chatham, Kent, for students with complex learning disabilities and difficulties including speech, language, emotional, sensory, physical and autistic spectrum disabilities.

When the school approached Medway Mail Centre plant manager Neil Molloy, asking about the possibility of a supported internship for three of their students with learning restrictions, we were happy to oblige.

Students River Everitt and James Stevens travelled from Medway to Surrey to help set up and prepare a pit stop station for the more than 500 cyclists, who were taking part in the Action for Children-sponsored CBRE Cycle Series 2019 events.

They helped Zeus Events prepare the food and drinks stand, ensuring there were enough drinks and energy boosting treats to go around, ranging from bananas to jelly beans. They also helped dish the food out and dismantle the stand once the events were over.

Tim Hyde, Medway charity champion, said: ‘The day was a great success and River and James were a credit to both Royal Mail and Bradfields Academy. After the event they enjoyed a hot chocolate and cheeseburger meal on their way home to a well-earned nap!’
