World Cancer Day

Supporting people with cancer on World Cancer Day – Monday 4 February

On today’s World Cancer Day, we should all take the opportunity to remember those affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly.

Here at Royal Mail we continue to support colleagues, family and friends who are, or have been, affected by cancer, whether that’s through supporting cancer charities through our payroll giving scheme or via the huge number of amazing fundraising efforts so many of you take part in throughout the year.

Charities such as Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Prostate Cancer UK, Teenage Cancer Trust, and Clic Sargent fund vital research and help people every day by supporting them and their families.

‘Cancer is shocking, overwhelming, isolating... and completely unfair,’ said a spokesperson from Clic Sargent, the UK’s leading charity supporting children and young people under the age of 25 with cancer. ‘Especially when you’re young. It takes over your life. Treatment is gruelling and your ambitions and dreams – education, relationships, career, travel – suddenly seem very far away.’

This World Cancer Day, CLIC Sargent are talking about relapse and the young cancer patients and families who have to face the emotional burden of cancer returning.

‘We do everything we can to stop cancer destroying young lives,’ they said, ‘but currently, we only support two out of every three young cancer patients – and many people who need our help do not know that we exist.

‘We want to make sure we are there for all young cancer patients, whenever they need us on their cancer journey.’

On this World Cancer Day please consider how you can support one of the UK’s amazing cancer charities. You can do this by fundraising or signing up for Payroll Giving.
