Whole lotta love

Crazy little thing called love – we’re looking for Royal Mail’s most romantic couple

With Valentine’s Day just three weeks away we’re looking for Royal Mail couples to share their stories.

Following our call for Royal Mail’s most romantic couples to step forward and share their stories, loved-up colleagues from across the business have been busy telling us how their love blossomed right here at work.

We’ve received some great stories so far. Who knew that pickled onions had such magical aphrodisiac properties? And what about the postman who saved the blushes of his future betrothed when her skirt came unstuck as she climbed out of her lorry?

So, come on, don't be shy, we know you’re out there. If you’re up for a weekend of free pampering, send us your stories. Our grand prize involves an escape with a loved one to one of three Hallmark Hotels for a day and night of pampering and relaxation. Enjoy a spa treatment each, a three-course dinner and to top it all off, a full English breakfast in the morning to ready you for the day ahead and the journey home. See below for how to enter.

So where did the idea of Valentine’s Day come from? The most popular theory claims that Emperor Claudius II didn’t want Roman men to marry during wartime, but a chap named Bishop Valentine – a possible relation of Bournemouth postwoman, Shirli-Ann Valentine, perhaps? - went against his wishes and performed secret weddings.

Why is the colour red so widely associated with 14 February – is it because Royal Mail with its famous red livery is so renowned for workplace romance? Why does an ‘X’ symbolise a kiss, could it have anything to do with our Red X process? So many questions, so many associations.

Send your names, contact details and a brief story of how you met your partner (100 words or less) to your.news@royalmail.com by no later than 8 February to be entered into our prize draw, from which one couple will be randomly selected to win our grand prize. We'll be contacting the couples with the most romantic stories to appear in Courier and myroyalmail.com to celebrate Valentine's Day in February.
