Passion for post

Some stories stay with you and as we revisit a heart-warming moment from 2022, this one has just gotten better with time.
In 2022, we were contacted by the RAF Benson about 10-year-old Alfie-Jon Purchase, the young son of an RAF Serviceman based at RAF Benson. Alfie is a long-time fan of Royal Mail, admiring our postboxes and posties. Over the years he has personally written a Christmas card to every house at RAF Benson (almost 600 houses) – acting as ‘Postman Alfie-Jon’ personally delivering them through every letterbox on his RAF site.
Over the years, our teams from across the business have banded together to give Alfie-Jon site tours, send him personalised messages and provide branded goodies.
Recently, we heard good news as Alfie-Jon had been nominated for a Young People’s Award at Celebrating Forces Families Awards. But there was just one hiccup, he didn’t fancy wearing a suit. Alfie’s dad reached out to ask if we could help, and of course we were more than happy to get Alfie kitted out with a fresh Royal Mail t-shirt, jacket and cap, so he could attend the event dressed as his favourite thing… a postie!
In event better news Alfie-Jon won!
‘Amazing to see the business supporting Alfie-Jon and hear of his recent win – congratulations!’ said Robert Rowatt, Chair MilNet, the Employee Resource Group for Veterans, Reservists, Cadet Adult Volunteers and, friends and family.
