Our digital postboxes

We are making it easier for customers to use postboxes to send parcels and today, we are excited to unveil our first solar-powered postboxes.
We have given our iconic postbox design a modern makeover, including an extra-large opening to accept parcels larger than those that fit through a letterbox for the first time. Customers scan their parcel’s barcode and a drawer opens for them to drop it in, and they can also request proof of posting using the Royal Mail app.
Five of the newly designed postboxes are being piloted in the Ware, Hertford and Fowlmere areas before we roll them out further across the UK. Letters can still be posted in the usual way through a separate opening. RMtv visited one of the modernised postboxes and spoke to some of our colleagues from Stevenage Delivery Office to hear what they thought of the new design!
“In making this historic change to our postboxes, our goal is to maximise choice and convenience for our customers. In an era where letter volumes continue to decline and parcels are booming, we are giving our iconic postboxes a new lease of life on street corners across the nation.” Emma Gilthorpe, Chief Executive.
The updates to postboxes are part of our wider out of home offer and mission to become the most convenient carrier for sending and receiving parcels, making us customers first choice. The updates will be particularly welcomed by the increasing number of online marketplace sellers and shoppers returning items.
