A special installation

Our first postbox bearing the cypher of HM King Charles III in Wales has been installed outside the Welshpool Delivery Office.
The box was unveiled by children from Welshpool High School and Tony Evans, the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Powys. The children then posted the first letter in the box, using Special Stamps that celebrated His Majesty’s Coronation.
As a class project, each of the children was asked to write a letter to The King about what they do to protect the environment in school and at home, why their local environment is important and what they would like to see happen in the future.
The letters were placed in an envelope and posted jointly by the children and the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Powys and sent to The King at Buckingham Palace.
‘Over 115,000 postboxes throughout the UK have borne the symbols of successive monarchs since the first box displayed Queen Victoria's cypher. We are grateful to His Majesty for allowing us to use his personal cypher as we embark on the next chapter of the iconic Great British postbox story in Wales’ said David Gold, Director of External Affairs and Policy.
The King’s cypher consists of the initials of the monarch’s name, Charles III, and title, Rex – Latin for King, alongside a representation of the Tudor Crown.
We’re pleased and honoured to carry the cypher as its use is in the personal gift of the King.
