Questions:

What apprenticeship are you doing do?

I am currently a Chartered Manager Degree Apprentice in the operations department. I am based at Parcelforce Worldwide Coventry National Hub.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship with Royal Mail?

I chose to do an apprenticeship with PFW because I wanted to gain practical experience as well as studying. The operations department is a fast-paced, hands-on environment and although I knew it will be tough getting used to, the degree I will receive, Applied Business Management, and the Chartered Manager status is what truly motivated me to choose this apprenticeship.

What three words describe your apprenticeship?

Challenging, Exciting, Fast

What do you like most about the apprenticeship?

What I like the most in this apprenticeship is the fact that I can be my authentic self. I don’t need to change my behaviour when I come to work as I feel accepted for who I am. Although this sector is male-dominant, the environment at PFW is welcoming and supportive. Challenging myself to make connections with people of different ages is rewarding.

One moment that has stuck with me is when one of the operatives recommended me to a new temporary worker if they needed any help. I felt satisfied and a sense of team and belonging. I also enjoy speaking with fellow apprentices in the same cohort as me and it's not always strictly formal. We help each other out and share our experiences so I am glad to be able to make some friends as apprenticeships can get lonely.

How do you think this experience will influence some of your future career choices?

After I complete my apprenticeship, I will most likely see the available jobs within Parcelforce and Royal Mail and use my qualification and experience to progress further. I want to explore different areas of the business and see where I can thrive. At PFW there are opportunities to progress as I have learned that employees have worked their way up their career ladder. I know that there are also level 7 apprenticeships which I could consider so lots of opportunities, just need to see what’s for me!
