Delivering with honours

Dating back to 1890, each year the reigning monarch recognises the achievements and service of extraordinary people across the UK in what is called ‘The New Year Honours List’.

This year, one of our own posties, Sheila Taylor-Young from West Wickham Delivery Office, received a letter from King Charles III sharing the good news that she has been nominated for this prestigious recognition by her customers.

Sheila who joined Parcelforce in 1992 before moving over to Royal Mail as part of the Orpington team and then joining duty at West Wickham, is known for lifting the spirits of those around her and delivering with a personal touch.

‘I have been on my walk for 10 years. In that time, I have got to know my customers - I see them more as friends’ said Sheila.

‘There have been highs and lows in customer’s lives, and I have been able to there to support them especially when I may be the only person they talk to that day. I’ve seen their children and grandchildren grow.’

Sheila is a part of many Wickham residents every-day life and a familiar, friendly face who truly cares for those she delivers to.

‘If I haven’t seen a customer or something doesn’t seem right, I knock on their door to see if they’re okay or need anything. Especially in COVID - a lot of people struggled through that dark time and customers often said I made it that bit easier for them when they saw me, I lifted their mood’ she said.

When Regional Operations Director for South East, Jay Brooks heard of Sheila’s special recognition he said: ‘Sheila is a fantastic example of the incredible job that our posties play within the community. This recognition is very well deserved and is testament to Sheila’s character and commitment. A brilliant ambassador for our great company.’
