Llandysul power on

Welsh team delivers Christmas, despite the weather

Despite storm Darragh’s best efforts, Christmas couldn’t be blown off course in rural Wales this week.

Located firmly in the red zone of storm Darragh, Llandysul delivery office lost power on Sunday night as high winds ripped through the area.

Determined not to let bad weather hold up deliveries of Christmas mail, staff quickly and dynamically risk assessed what they had to do, and prioritised getting as much lighting into the unit as possible, so they could work safely together indoors.

After sourcing head torches, the team were able to work to get parcels and Tracked items sorted and out on delivery. And took PDAs and cradles home with them to charge at the end of the day.

Although the stormy situation may have calmed down, it hasn’t yet passed entirely – and on Tuesday afternoon COM, Ryan Goellnitz, was busy trying to source a replacement generator so that staff could continue to ensure customers’ letters and parcels arrived on time.

Darran Dyke, OPL for West Wales, said: ‘The commitment and leadership of COM Ryan has shone through, and we couldn’t have asked any more from him and the team.

‘The pride and commitment to RM and to their own community was a real example of why RM is still in the heart of the community and sets us apart from our rivals.’

ROD for Wales and the Marches, Dean Jenkins, said: ‘The efforts and determination the staff and COM have shown in Llandysul DO to deliver for their customers through Storm Darragh has been nothing short of remarkable.

‘It really highlights how special the people who work for us are and the difference they make. An absolutely amazing effort by absolutely amazing people, thank you all.’
