Feel-good Friday

Angels of the North

This Feel-good Friday, we have an inspiring story that truly highlights the bravery and selflessness of our team. Meet Alan Morrison and David Broadley, two exceptional posties from Glasgow, Scotland, whose quick thinking and heroism have hailed them local legends.

One evening, while out delivering in a residential block, one flat was engulfed in smoke and flames, and trapped inside were an elderly couple who had no way to escape. Without a second’s hesitation, Alan and David rushed to their aid, determined to save the couple.

Through thick smoke and danger, they carried the elderly couple to safety, saving them from what could have been a fatal disaster. But their actions didn’t stop there - once the couple was safe, they quickly raised the alarm to make sure everyone else in the building was evacuated and safe.

When Regional Operations Director for Scotland, Ross Hutchison was asked about the actions of his team he said: ‘the community spirit and bravery shown by the guys in G20/23 was phenomenal and makes me so proud of the team here in Scotland. I would like to pass my personal thanks to them and I know the whole Glasgow team share my pride.’

The elderly couple is currently being treated for smoke inhalation at hospital, but it’s clear that without Alan and David’s quick and brave actions, they may not have survived. Their selflessness and courage were nothing short of heroic.

At a time of year when we celebrate the spirit of giving and kindness, Alan and David have shown us the true meaning of Christmas. Their actions remind us all that bravery comes in many forms, and sometimes, it’s the everyday heroes among us who make the most incredible difference.

Lead Customer Operations Manager in Glasgow, Sean Broadley said: ’ I see what lengths all the Glasgow team go to on a daily basis, not only for the business but also for their customers. This is just one example of many that shows how far our people will go if anyone is in a vulnerable position.’

Sean spoke with Alan and David about their brave acts: ‘This was a selfless act of bravery on Alan and David’s part, and I know from talking to both gentlemen that their main concern wasn’t for themselves, but to get the elderly couple out of danger and alert everyone else of the danger I would just like to thank both for this act of bravery and helping the elderly couple in a situation that could have had a very different outcome.’

Thank you, Alan and David. You’ve made this Christmas season brighter and safer for so many.
