USO boost

Royal Mail’s campaign to introduce essential reforms to the Universal Service received a welcome boost this week.
On Tuesday the Secretary of State for Business and Trade, Jonathan Reynolds MP, appeared at the House of Common’s Business and Trade Select Committee. He was questioned on a wide range of topics, including reform of the Universal Postal Service.
Mr Reynolds acknowledged the importance of the Universal Service to the country but recognised the ‘fundamental decline in letters’ and the ‘economic problems of Royal Mail’ – both of which are at the heart of our proposal to reform the Universal Service as a matter of urgency.
He added: 'I want a strong and prosperous Royal Mail at the centre of national life.'
His view gives further weight to the growing need for reform in order to protect the future of the Universal Service.
