The moral of the morale

When the hum of the mail centre is buzzing with the hustle and bustle of additional seasonal colleagues and increased products entering the network, it’s key to keep morale high.
Amongst the commotion at Leeds Mail Centre, postman Mark Johnson keeps the night time team laughing and smiling to lighten the mood.
With an impressive 37 Royal Mail Christmas’ under his belt, Mark describes this time: ‘I try to bring a cheerful face and keep my colleagues entertained,’ he said. ‘I find if they are laughing, it keeps up the morale of the team, especially at Christmas when we have the extra workload. If everyone is happy in their work, then the shift runs better.’
No stranger to hard work, after so many Christmas’ and manic rushes to get gifts out the door and in the hands of customers, Mark stills loves it and advises those experiencing their first Peak to keep their cool.
‘Just enjoy the experience,’ he said. ‘It will be hard but just remember you are helping the country bring happiness to all families and at the end you can sit back and think you have made a difference.’
When the last parcel is received and final card delivered, Mark is looking forward to some well-deserved rest with his family, with a glass in hand, good food on the table and a family movie in the background.
We can cheers to that!
