Be energy aware...

Every penny counts

One of our posties contacted Every Penny Counts suggesting we remind people to turn off lights to save money – an action that is a win-win-win for the business.

This supports our strategy to reach Net-Zero by 2040, reducing carbon emissions and reducing electricity consumption - one of the vital few actions on Environment section of the SQCDPE performance boards.

He said: ‘Before Royal Mail, I worked as a Facilities Manager. To cut costs we’d make staff aware of turning lights off, when not needed.

‘It amazes me how often lights get left on at sites when no one is in the building. A simple awareness campaign would remind people to make sure they turn lights off when not needed.’

Thank you for the suggestion, a great reminder.

On the back of this, our campaign reminding people to Be Energy Aware this Winter launches today with a Work Time Listening and Learning briefing and a poster to display in office.

We’re encouraging teams to:

  • set up processes and give individuals responsibility for checking and turning off lights
  • report to the PFS National Service Centre on 0333 005 0312, of we are heating parts of the building that aren’t used, or don’t need to be warm.
