A Scottish visit

Emma’s northern travels

The sun came out across an autumnal Scotland for a special tour with CEO, Emma Gilthorpe.

Off to a celebratory start in Glasgow, Emma visited the team at Paisley Delivery Office with Operations Performance Leader, Barry Culbert, and met with Lead COM, Alan Drysdale. During this visit, Emma presented two colleagues with awards - Trainee Manager, Aiden McLaren, was presented with a one-year service award and Postie of the Month for Wullie Gordon.

Next stop on the tour was Glasgow Mail Centre, where Emma met Regional Operations Director for Scotland, Ross Hutchison, and the local leadership team for an overview of our Scottish operations, hearing about the team’s revision journey so far.

Emma, Ross and the rest of the team - Ross Anderson, Barry Culbert and Calum Davidson - then headed north to Oban.

Upon arrival at Oban Delivery Office, COM Louisa MacDonald rounded up the frontline team to discuss Net Promoter Scores and the MyDoorstep app.

This was also an opportunity for Emma to learn more about the complexities of the operation with islands and ferries. To get a first-hand experience, the team then took the smallest ferry in the CalMac fleet to the island of Kerrera where Emma met postman, Mark Adamson, and his Royal Mail quad bike!

Mark delivers to the 26 delivery points on the island on his quad and took some time to show everyone round the island, mostly off-roading, before they caught the last ferry back to the mainland.

To close the tour, a journey was embarked upon to McCaig’s Tower to take in the view of the islands serviced by Oban.

‘It was wonderful to spend time with #TeamScotland last week in Paisley, Glasgow Mail Centre and also some of the more remote locations in and around Oban’ said Emma.

‘Our teams do an amazing job in sometimes challenging circumstances, serving these remote communities, who rely on Royal Mail to keep them connected with e-commerce, friends and family.  Very proud of their efforts and wonderful team spirit.  Keep up the great work!’
