Postie with The Voice

Aaron’s star turn on hit TV talent contest - Feel-good Friday

The ‘Dudley delivery driver’ who wowed the star judges on a singing talent contest has described the ‘surreal’ experience of his starring role on Saturday night TV.

Aaron Delano won rave reviews for his performance of I’m Kissing You during the blind auditions stage of ITV’s The Voice. In the show, judges Tom Jones, WILL.i.AM, LeAnn Rimes and Mcfly duo Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher, watch the first round with their backs to the artist, only pressing their buzzer to turn in the chair if they want them to go through to the next stage. For Aaron, all four had turned around by the end of his performance.

Aaron, who has been a postie at Dudley Delivery Office for a year after originally joining the business as an agency colleague, was left visibly stunned by their reaction as he sailed through to the next round. You can watch his performance on YouTube, here.

‘It was amazing,’ he told us. ‘It was really interesting being able to meet people as famous as Tom Jones and WILL.i.AM and to perform like that – crazy. It was just a surreal experience.

‘I didn’t anticipate getting four turns. It left me with a decision to make with which judge to ‘coach’ me in the next round and I wasn’t 100 per cent sure who to go with.’

Aaron made the judges work for him too, asking each to pitch for his talents.

And, although WILL.i.AM quipped, ‘you’re a delivery driver? You delivered that!’ to Aaron, it was legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones who he chose, after Tom told him: ‘You have a tremendous voice. You sounded like you knew exactly what you were doing and what you wanted to portray, and I felt that from you.’

‘He’s an icon of the industry, and I think out of the judges he suits my style best,’ explains Aaron, who grew up singing in church and has performed at festivals as a backing vocalist, as well as for weddings.

As part of his TV appearance, he was filmed by ITV on his Dudley round, and his customers have since been quick to praise him.

‘I’ve had an amazing reaction,’ he said. ‘I now have so many random people following me on social media and getting positive feedback and comments. On YouTube as well, reading all the comments on there – it feels amazing.

‘I’ve had customers asking for pictures and saying, “weren’t you on TV?!” and giving me positive feedback.’

Aaron will feature on an upcoming show as he attempts to make it through the next round and all at Royal Mail wishes him good luck! We’ll update on his progress when he next appears.
