Feel-good Friday

Delivering first class experiences

Throughout the summer many of our teams welcomed work experience students who were keen to learn about the working world. before returning to their studies.

University of York student, Bethan Hancox joined Corporate Affairs to meet the team and understand the variety of roles, concluding with a stint shadowing  our Environment, Social and Governance team for three days. which aligned perfectly with her Human Geography and Environment studies.

Bethan was met with a warm welcome: ‘I found everyone very helpful, friendly and eager to answer all my questions.’.

A short project was set for Bethan which she presented to the team to generate discussion on her findings.

‘This experience helped solidify my goal to work in ESG after graduation. It was fascinating to learn about the Steps to Zero strategy of Royal Mail,  and the challenges that come when delivering on future ESG targets.’

Since starting university, Bethan reported that not only has her first week of lectures been a success, she has also been able to apply her experience at Royal Mail to one of her assessments about decarbonisation.

‘Working with Bethan was a very positive experience for the ESG team’ said Matt Gower, Head of ESG.

‘We were impressed by her genuine curiosity, thoughtful engagement and the insights she produced in the assignment we gave her. We also found it valuable to hear a fresh perspective from a younger generation on the topics we deal with daily.’
