Feel-good Friday

Throughout summer we celebrated South Asian Heritage Month in style with this year’s theme being #freetobeme and we relished the idea of encouraging our colleagues of South Asian heritage to tell us what this meant for them.
An engaging exhibition was held in 185 Farringdon Road showcasing South Asian cuisine, fashion, architecture and as well as featuring colleagues sharing what their heritage means to them, which had a welcomed visit from our new CEO, Emma Gilthorpe.
A variety of areas and teams got involved in the occasion including Eurest who joined in by serving South Asian specials of the day in their catering sites.
EmbRace hosted a Connect and Learn session with colleagues of South Asian heritage discussing how their heritage has shaped them and talking about what Royal Mail can do to support our South Asian colleagues to be true to themselves in the workplace. Many attendees felt that this was an incredibly insightful session.
This occasion was also a wonderful opportunity for our South Asian colleagues to wear their traditional attire at work and share South Asian cuisine with colleagues through locally organised events.
‘The enthusiasm from colleagues in our mail centres and depots particularly, was just breath-taking’ said Fiona Barron, Chair of EmbRace ERG.
We saw celebrations, raffles, music performances and competitions, raising £100s for British Heart Foundation. If you were lucky enough to be in one of those worksites, you were in for a treat.
If you enjoyed South Asian Heritage Month, prepare yourself for Black History Month in October. EmbRace will be building on the momentum and encourage colleagues to celebrate the diversity of our wonderful workforce through local events as well as fund raising for our partner charity, British Heart Foundation.
