Praise for posties

‘Without you, we couldn’t function’ - Post General Election MP visits in full swing across the UK

Newly elected Members of Parliament are taking their first steps in posties’ shoes with visits to our delivery offices taking place across the country.

Thank you to many of our teams who have hosted MPs since the 4 July result, with more than 20 new MPs visiting operational sites in August alone - from Doncaster to Dorset, Blackpool to Greenford and Peterborough to Stoke.

The MPs have been fulsome in their praise, with many taking to social media platforms to share pictures and updates from their time with our teams.

We joined the first of those visits from a new Labour MP in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, where Adam Jogee got a taste of the life of a postie for the first time.

‘Thank you for going above and beyond,’ he says. ‘Thank you for your grit, your determination, for walking in the rain, the snow, the sleet – and the baking sun. Because without you, we couldn’t function as the country does.’

David Gold, Director External Affairs & Policy, explains why hosting politicians is important for Royal Mail.

‘We have one of the most proactive political engagement strategies of any major British business, inviting politicians of every party to see how we work in every community,’ he says. ‘We do this because what we do matters to every resident and business and there’s not much that is decided by politicians that doesn’t have an impact on Royal Mail and our people.

‘As everyone knows from the work we did in the General Election, and the local elections before that, politicians rely on us to get their message out too.

‘We are undertaking a massive transformation of our operations and we are seeking reform of the Universal Service. If politicians are going to make decisions about our future, they need to understand how we work.’
