Feel-good Friday

Jasmine, People Case Support Manager and Ben Fish, Customer Operations Manager at Saxon Way Delivery Office, are married and both work for Royal Mail.
In November 2022, two weeks after being born, Nellie their second daughter, became unwell with infantile sepsis.
Jasmine explained ‘Nellie just didn’t seem well, I kept taking her temperature but it was really low, around 29 degrees. What I didn’t know then, was that a very low temperature can be just as dangerous as a high temperature’.
Ben and Jasmine took her to Hull Royal Infirmary and it soon became clear she needed moving to a paediatric intensive care unit, and that was in Leicester. This is when they became aware of the charity Embrace.
Embrace is a niche part of the Sheffield Childrens Hospital charity, a specialist medical team that move very poorly children between hospitals.
Jasmine describes the moment the team arrived: ‘we were in an operating theatre in Hull hospital, Nellie was surrounded by medical professionals. When the Embrace team arrived to transport Nellie, with what looked like a baby spaceship, so they could provide intensive care enroute, they immediately exuded a sense of calm and control in a frightening situation, and made us feel we were in safe hands.
’They sorted everything out, they gave Nellie medical care and monitoring throughout the journey and made sure everything was ready for our arrival at Leicester. I will never forget how they made us feel during the worst situation of our lives - they were incredible.’
They also transported us back to Hull Royal when she was well enough, a service that really was above and beyond, and enabled us to be home for New Years Eve, when no other hospital transport was available.
For this reason, now Nellie is much stronger and a thriving, adventurous one year old, Ben and Jasmine are fundraising to support Embrace.
In late July, alongside 75 people from his cricket club, Ben and Jasmine completed a 46 mile overnight walk, which has so far raised over £15,000, with money still coming in.
To encourage the team at Saxon Way DO to donate, Ben set up a prize draw. The names of everyone who donated £5 has been put in a prize draw, and the Ben is covering the winners Saturday duty, so they can have a day off, and Andrew Petherbridge won the prize.
Andy said, ‘It was a great idea from Ben to do something different to encourage sponsorship, I’m looking forward to him doing my delivery, since it’s the biggest in the office’.
To add to the fundraising pot, Jasmine’s HR People Case Support team have chosen Embrace as their charity to support this year, and on the 24 August, she will be doing a skydive for the charity, alongside her colleagues Hollie Albero and Steven Hunt and family friends - followed by a fun day at the local village hall, where they are aiming to raise £3,500.
Very best of luck to all involved, and if you’d like to support Embrace you can donate here.
