SouthAsian Heritage Month

South Asian Heritage Month commemorates and celebrates South Asian cultures, histories, and communities, understanding how their diverse heritage and cultures link the UK with South Asia.
South Asian culture has made a significant impact on Britain in many ways such as food, clothing, music, words, and the overall ambiance of our towns and cities. Observing South Asian Heritage Month provides us with a unique chance to embrace and celebrate the history and identity of British South Asians.
This occasion offers people an opportunity to share their own stories and showcase what being South Asian in the 21st century entails, while also reflecting on our past and how it has shaped us.
This year, EmbRace is leading the celebration of South Asian heritage and culture, with Workplace posts, a flagship exhibition in 185 Farringdon Road and a Connect and Learn session on 13 August.
Eurest will be providing South Asian cuisine in the managed catering sites and there will be local events in RM workplaces across the country. You will find out more information here.
The theme of this year’s SAHM is #FreeToBeMe. This is incredibly important. We are fortunate in Royal Mail to have employees from many different backgrounds, spanning 3, if not 4, generations, bringing with them a myriad of experiences, ideas, skills and outlooks. The ability to be true to our best selves at work, whatever that might be, should be treasured and nurtured, and South Asian Heritage Month provides a unique opportunity to promote this.
Please join in the SAHM celebration by holding your own local events, putting your pictures on Workplace, talking with colleagues about their heritage, visiting the Exhibition and attending the Connect and Learn session. We look forward to making SAHM #FreeToBeMe a huge success.
