Investment in Ilfracombe
A couple of years ago Ilfracombe Delivery Office, located in North Devon, was identified as one of our priority delivery offices in need of vast improvement or replacement.
Colleagues were faced with day-to-day issues over parking constraints, poor access, operating over multi-floors so having to use a lift and a deteriorating building in need of significant repair.
With no suitable replacements in the area, the Property team were seeking alternative plans to invest in improving the old office. However, last summer of they came across an available site at nearby Mullacott Industrial Estate that fitted their needs.
Moving swiftly to secure the investment, and working jointly with our unions and local teams, the Delivery Estate and Property teams put plans in place to move to the new office.
In May, colleagues moved into the new site and the move is proving a success, as this film shows. It's also packed with environmental improvements, too.
There are no more parking issues and easy access in and out of the unit. Operations are now on one level without the need to rely on a lift to get work into the office. The new delivery office provides a modern and fit for purpose site including net zero design features.
As well as decarbonised heating and new solar powered yard lighting, the site also has eight electric van charging bays. Nine electric vans are expected to be in use at Ilfracombe by end of September with the total electric vans to reach 14 later in the year.
