Dog Awareness Week

It’s Dog Awareness Week from 1-7 July, which is about encouraging responsible dog ownership. Through social media, press coverage, customer service points and a special postmark on letters we are highlighting the dangers our posties face, the impact on victims and the steps customers can take to help keep our people safe all year round.
Dogs are one of the most significant risks faced by our delivery employees. Last year we saw a 15% increase in dog bites compared to the previous year, with over 2,200 of our people being attacked - some leading to permanent and disabling injuries. An increase in the dog population has contributed to this.
We are concerned to see that the number of attacks increased, so let’s do all we can to raise awareness amongst our colleagues, friends, and family.
To learn more watch the recent RMtv, read the Dog Awareness Week article in the Courier Summer edition and look out for posters and WTLL updates in your workplace. More information can also be found on the Dog Awareness Week page.
We ask all our employees to AVOID dogs, not just during Dog Awareness Week but every week. If you do one thing this week, remind yourself and your colleagues of the acronym:
AVOID interaction with all dogs
Value Yourself. Don’t put your fingers through the letter box or yourself at risk
Observe Keep your duty log up to date
Inform your colleagues of risks, reports hazards to your manager. Report all dog attacks and near misses.
Defend yourself if necessary, using your delivery equipment
