Commended for bravery

Feel-good Friday

Three colleagues have been given police commendations for bravery after witnessing a stabbing in which a man died.

Clive Bholo and Courtney Steeves, posties from Streatham Delivery Office and Kevin Osagie, Customer Operations Manager at Wandsworth Delivery Office, received commendations from the Metropolitan Police at a ceremony in Central London for their actions three years earlier.

Courtney and Kevin were outside the delivery office when they witnessed a group of teenagers armed with machetes, stab one of the members of the group during a fight.

Although the group were armed, the pair shouted at them to stop and chased them to prevent further harm to the victim. Kevin tended the victim, whilst Courtney called for an ambulance and called Clive, a Royal Mail trained first aider.

Clive remembers: ‘I was working in the customer service point at Streatham when I heard one of the drivers screaming my name. I ran out to find a youth on the floor who had been stabbed. I administered first aid until the ambulance arrived and took over. I was looking into his eyes when he took his last breath.’

Sadly the young man died, but Clive, Courtney and Kevin were commended at an event for their bravery and compassion to protect and assist this young man.

Clive said: ‘The event was very special, it was an honour to receive the commendation. It did bring everything back from that day in 2021, but I find talking about it helps me to deal with it.’
