Bank holiday boost

As we move into summer, we are now able to take a look back at our quality performance during spring 2024.
With two bank holidays – on May 6 and May 27 – the month of May can be a challenging time for our operation, as we look to deliver letters and parcels to even tighter deadlines than usual.
In 2024, improving our quality of service is one of the business’s top priorities.
Our UK Operations Director, Ricky McAulay, said: ‘I’m pleased to be able to report that we’ve made great progress on our quality goals so far this year.
‘Bank holidays can present a logistical challenge for us as a business, simply because we are already on such a tight turnaround and they give us less time to get the mail out.
‘This puts pressure on us to get resourcing right. We have clearly done that, because during period two (P2) this year- which includes the bank holidays on May 6 and May 27 - we delivered our best performance for Tracked 24 (96.8%) since April 2022 and our best performance for Tracked 48 (97.5%) since June 2021.
‘When we look at this year’s spring bank holiday week in comparison to the same week last year, we can see that we have improved our quality in the past year alone – with Tracked 24 up 2.6% to 95.6% and Tracked 48 up by 3.3% to 97.2%.
‘In addition, I am delighted to say that there has been a significant improvement in our quality in comparison with the Easter Bank Holiday earlier this year, and our Tracked 24 performance for the early May Bank Holiday 2024 was up by 4.2% from our performance at Easter – just five weeks previously.
‘Our First Class Quality of Service has also improved, and our P2 performance for first class in 2024 is 82.1%, which represents a 7.1% improvement on the same period last year.
‘We are moving in the right direction. These improvements are testament to the hard work and dedication of our colleagues across the network, who have all played their part and worked hard to ensure we deliver the service customers expect from Royal Mail.'
