Help@hand personal story

With one in two of us experiencing poor mental health or supporting someone close to us, this year we’re prioritising our mental health support, and launching our new mental health programme. Since April, all managers have been attending mental health training, to help equip them to spot the signs of poor mental health and confidently signpost to the right support.
Later this year all colleagues will have access to a new digital mental health programme. In the meantime, support can be accessed through the Wellbeing Hub.
Today, we hear from Sarah-Louise MacPherson, Customer Operations Manager, about how using Help@hand supported her with her mental health: ‘making my wellbeing a priority every day is important to me and using services like Help@hand have helped me access services to support me’ she said.
Using the mental health support through Help@hand has helped Sarah-Lousie to talk openly about her experiences, the support she received and how she accessed it.
After experiencing a trauma event which led to Sarah-Louise being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, she found bottling her emotions up caused her to spiral. When she discovered Help@hand, she was able to take more steps towards managing her mental health.
‘The support I received through Help@hand has helped me notice my personal warning signs and to seek help when things are getting on top of me again.’
‘I found the service extremely helpful and was held via a video call so I could see the person I was speaking too, which made me feel more comfortable and gave me confidence to talk about what had happened and how I was feeling.’
Sarah-Louise found registering to Help@hand and easy, and has also been able to benefits from the other services such as GP appointments, physio and more.
‘Never be afraid to seek help, support is available for you’ said Sarah-Louise‘ I encourage everyone to download and register for Help@Hand. The support I have received has been great and is a support system that I will carry on using when I need to.’
