Tomorrow, Ofcom’s consultation on the future of the Universal Service will close.

In January, the postal regulator published a call for inputs, setting out evidence and options for how the Universal Service might need to evolve to more closely meet consumer needs.

We are submitting our own proposal as part of Ofcom’s consultation and will be sharing the details of that with you tomorrow.

In their call for input, Ofcom concluded that reform of the Universal Service is necessary, given letter volumes have declined from a peak of 20 billion a year in 2004/05 to seven billion in 2022/23. Volumes will likely drop to around four billion in the next five years.

Ahead of sharing what we’re proposing, this film sets out why urgent change is now vital.
