Our inspiring colleagues

Ahead of International Women’s Day on Friday 8 March, we are spotlighting the fantastic women we work with.
At Royal Mail, we’re never short of charitable spirit and Northallerton Delivery Office postie who supports the Customer Operations Manager, Nicki Hall, certainly leads the way with contributing to the community.
‘Women within Royal Mail play a vital role within our communities and have helped raise awareness of so many things, including mental health support in offices,’ said Nicki.
Nicki wears many hats by also acting as wellbeing ambassador, Rowland Hill Fund ambassador, workplace safety rep and CWU equality officer for her office, which shows her giving nature.
‘I’ve been very fortunate to be in a delivery office where I have a lot of support - not only from the managers but also my colleagues too. We regularly have fundraising days for some absolutely amazing charities,’ said Nicki.
Some of Nicki’s charitable ventures include:
- Many bake sales, raffles and various other charity days to fundraise for RHF
- Football t-shirt day to support the charity Mind
- Supporting local animal charity, Saving Yorkshires Dogs at open days
- Knitting poppies for Royal British Legion.
A recent charitable venture was in collaboration with our charity partner, British Heart Foundation, for Heart Month. Nicki was involved in the yarn bombers community to raise awareness through postbox toppers. The social media post showing this work is now their most engaged post!
‘I was able to create a heart topper with the help of yarn bombers who donated knitted hearts in memory of loved ones to be placed on our postbox topper,’ she explained. ‘It was hours of work but very worth it.’
Nicki’s husband also gets involved as they very recently placed a Letters to Heaven postbox at a local church.
Nicki stands behind the sentiment of ‘it takes a village’ when it comes to charitable work and supporting the community, recognising with more people, more can be done.
‘To say I’ve been very lucky to have such an amazing support circle is an understatement,’ she said.
‘From Aimee Byrne who is a fantastic OPL support then there’s Shan Lawrence from Rowland Hill Fund.
‘The wonderful ladies from the BHF and women such Debbie Jones who is the COM in our office. All the way to each and every woman I’ve worked with in my journey with Royal Mail. My family has also been a massive network of help and their willingness to be part of what we do within our community.
‘They are all just brilliant women and I’m very thankful of how committed they all are to inspire me to be the best version of myself.’
