Young people's wellbeing

Empower young people to improve their wellbeing

This week is Children's Mental Health Week, a time for us to reflect and shine a spotlight on the importance of empowering children and young people to express themselves and share how they are feeling, given that half of mental ill-health is established by age 14.

Whether you're a parent/guardian, older sibling or older family member, understanding the signs and behaviours that could point to a child or young person needing support can lead to you being able to help them maintain their mental wellbeing, right through to adulthood.

Supporting children and parents with their mental health

Helping children to normalise wellbeing conversations and encouraging them to be aware of how they are feeling will help them to talk openly about their own mental health.

  • If you notice that your child may be struggling with their mental health you can use the Help@hand service, which is available to all colleagues, to speak to an online GP for advice
  • The Wellbeing Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) offers support at any time – whether you want to speak to someone in the moment, have a complex concern or need advice on how to support someone else. EAP is free, confidential, independent and available 24/7, 365 days a year.
  • Parents & Carers network is a supportive space for all colleagues. You can find relevant resources and support when you need it.
  • Kooth – an online mental health community offering free, independent support for young people and parents.
  • Find out what you can do to help a child have good mental health through NHS.

The Wellbeing Hub has all the information you need to support your health and wellbeing. You can access the hub via the 'Your Wellbeing' tile on the RM People App.
