Our BHF marathon runners

Find out why they're running...

Back in September British Heart Foundation launched a draw for Royal Mail employees to secure one of three marathon spots. Martin Williamson and Kirsty Richardson were successfully drawn to take on Manchester Marathon and Richard O’Brien was drawn to run London Marathon. Tom Legg secured his own place for the London Marathon through the public ballot and decided to run for BHF, so has joined the team! From fitness challenges to close connections to cause, here’s why they’re all running this April…

Kirsty Richardson works as delivery day off cover based in Dereham DO. Kirsty, a mother of two, is running the Manchester Marathon for BHF as it’s a cause very close to her. At the age of 25 her partner underwent open heart surgery. Kirsty has been running for four years and ran her second marathon in London in 2022 for BHF.

Tom Legg from Northampton has a close connection to BHF after losing his Grampy to a heart attack a few years ago. He will be running the London Marathon in memory of his Grampy. Tom wants to do something to push himself out of his comfort zone, whilst raising as much money as he can for a great cause and making his daughters proud!

Martin Williamson is a Traffic 0ffice Manager for Distribution at Warrington Mail Centre and will be running the Manchester Marathon. Martin has previously run six marathons, the last of which was in 2016. Since then, he’s had two knee surgeries and hit the big 5 – 0 so decided it was time to get fit in the hope he can fulfil his ambition to complete 10 Marathons before “retiring from the sport”.

Richard O’Brien will be taking on the London Marathon! Based in West Yorkshire, working as a Pricing Manager in the Central Pricing Team Richard is a keen runner and has always wanted to run the London Marathon and is delighted to support our amazing partnership with BHF.

Good luck Richard, Tom, Martin, and Kirsty, we look forward to sharing more of your journey!
