Lobbying government

Collaborating for environmental action

To deliver our Steps to Zero ambition to reach Net-Zero by 2040, we are committed to collaborating with government and external partners to support the acceleration of the environmental ambitions of UK businesses.

Earlier this week, Emma Bayliss-Chan, Senior Manager – Environment & Climate Strategy represented Royal Mail at the Environment APPG* in the House of Commons. Alongside other UK Electric Fleet Coalition (UKEFC) members. Emma put forward suggestions to MP Wera Hobhouse and her colleagues on how the government can better support UK businesses in their electric vehicle transition plans.

At the event Emma lobbied government to bring down the high up-front capital cost for on-site charging, and to extend the grants available for plug-in electric vans, which is due to end April 2025.

Emma Bayliss-Chan said “It was a privilege to represent Royal Mail at the Environment APPG in the House of Commons last week alongside other UK Electric Fleet Coalition (UKEFC) members and The Climate Group”.

Royal Mail operates the largest commercial electric fleet in the UK with over 5,000 electric vans on the road delivering and collecting mail for our customers. Decarbonising our fleet is key to achieving our externally validated to achieve Net-Zero by 2040.

*APPG is an All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs). They are informal, cross-party groups formed by MPs and Members of the House of Lords who share a common interest in a particular policy area, region or country.
