Champion of champions

Westhill based postie, John Rutherford is not only an avid contender and multiple-time winner, but John has also officially been crowned as Champion of champions in the #PicturePerfect competition of 2023.
We put all 12 winning shots of 2023 into one poll for you to vote for an ultimate winner and after 174 votes, John’s Stag in the Rain came up trumps with 42 votes.
The Scottish postie feels honoured to have won the #PicturePerfect championship saying: ‘There has been some amazing images entered, not only in the championship, but in all the monthly competitions.’
‘Everyone who has entered should be proud And I'd like to especially thank those who voted.’
The well-deserved winner first got into photography when he was gifted a DSLR camera for his creative outlet and soon discovered a love for landscape photography.
‘I found photography is an escape from the pressures of life. I joined a camera club to learn how to control the camera more and slowly improved. Through photography I have explored many areas of Scotland and even ventured across the border and last year I spent a week in northern Norway.’
We’re not the only fans of John’s work as he won runner up in the "Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year” in 2022 and was named ‘Photographer on the year’ in his photography club.
Keep an eye out for more shots from John as he’s challenged himself to capture a range of photographs this year including a puffin flight while enjoying sand eels and a picturesque fox.
