Peak support

Deputy COO Alistair Cochrane helps to get Christmas sorted at our North West Superhub

It’s a busy time of year for everyone at Royal Mail. And every bit of extra support in the operation will help us to deliver a great Christmas for our customers.

Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Alistair Cochrane, has been helping out at the North West Superhub this week to do just that.

Alistair, who joined the business at the end of October, says: ‘They are an excellent, really dedicated team here [at the North West Superhub], working toward a common goal of clearing the facility of all T24 in readiness for the key departure times.

‘I have been working with the team to sort some parcels, working on both parts of the machine through breaking down pallets and loading them onto the belt and moving cages to load the robotic tipper onto the machine.

‘There is a really strong team spirit here with lots of people smiling and working for each other.’

Alistair, who has previously worked at Whistl, TNT Express and Parcelforce Worldwide as Operations Director, says that over the coming months he hopes: ‘To meet as many people as I can and learn from everyone that I have met.

‘The RM family is vast and everyone has made my induction to the company all the more easy with the way they have shared experiences and showed me what good and also bad looks like.’

So does Alistair have any advice for colleagues on how to prepare for the increase in traffic expected over the coming weeks?

‘Plan, plan and plan again as there will always been situations that happen every night that you need to overcome and being prepared and working to a plan will make all the difference.’

And finally – is Alistair hoping to find anything in particular under his Christmas tree this Christmas?  Delivered there by Royal Mail, of course.

‘A new golf club would be great - anything to help my not so good golf game!’
