A Cornwall Christmas

Camborne COM Ian Gadsby and team are looking to make Christmas 2023 a success

‘We cleared yesterday to make it 15 days clear in a row,’ says Camborne COM Ian Gadsby. ‘It’s looking good today but it’s now started snowing quite heavily which may impact.’

This week, Ian and his 36-strong team have started to see the largest volumes of Tracked items coming through their unit since mid-December last year.

Things are definitely getting busier for them as we head further into peak, and they are determined to make 2023 a successful – and clear – Christmas.

So how are they doing that?

‘I think they are the best team in the world in Camborne,’ says Ian. 'I spend all year doing everything I can for my people – and at the end of the year I get it back.

‘I trust my team so much. If they tell me there is no way they can clear then I know I need to find a solution for them. We work together.

‘I would say that the key to getting everything done is about getting the right people in the right place.

‘In the run up to Christmas I have a daily plan – five or six people out in the morning doing parcels whilst other people cover their indoor work and double prep.

‘We talk about if they are leaving work in the office – who is doing that and who in the team will pick it up.

‘We have part timers stepping up to do full time at Christmas and I try to promote a sense of wellbeing within the team to keep everyone motivated.

‘My team want to achieve.

‘As a manager I am out there for hours with people on the floor. Then I complete any paperwork once they are out on delivery.

‘Really it is just communication, enthusiasm. And don’t panic!’
