With Data Protection Day just one month away, there’s something exciting we’d like to say…

Data Protection Day is celebrated globally on 28 January each year. On this date, governments, parliaments, national data protection bodies and organisations carry out activities to remind everyone about the importance of personal data protection and privacy. 

In preparation for the big day, Think Secure are running a competition which focuses on YOU, our greatest defence against a data breach or cyber-attack.

About the competition

This December, we want to know what you think the most important aspect of data protection and privacy is here at Royal Mail Group. There is, however, a slight twist – your submission must be in the form of a limerick (see below example), rhyme or pun.

‘With Data Protection Day one month away,
There’s something exciting we’d like to say.
We’re launching today in this newsletter edition
A fun competition, which requires a submission.
Create a data protection-themed rhyme, limerick or pun.
And for the special winner, one pair of AirPods to be won.’

You have one week to submit your work – the deadline is 5pm Friday 11 December, and the winner will be chosen by a panel four independent data protection officers (DPOs) alongside our very own DPO, Sarah Blacker. The winner will be announced on Tuesday 22 December.

What are we looking for?

  • Originality – we know what’s out there on the internet and so, we’re looking for original submissions that encompass what you feel is the most important element of data protection and privacy at RMG.
  • RMG-centric – you’ll need to demonstrate that you have thought about what is most important to RMG when it comes to protecting personal data (e.g. being trusted, delivering a first-class service).
  • Creativity – we’d love to see humour, creativity and thinking outside the box (please keep it PG, inappropriateness will result in your submission being disregarded).

Entry requirements

  • Create a rhyme, limerick or pun and email it to thinksecure@royalmail.com.
  • You are entitled to one submission, which must be your own work.
  • Your work must be submitted to thinksecure@royalmail.com between 10am on 4 December and 5pm Friday 11 December.
  • If submitting from a personal email address, you must confirm you are an employee of RMG by providing your payroll number.
  • Submissions received after the deadline will unfortunately not be accepted
  • You must be an RMG employee to enter. Submissions from any person who isn’t an employee of RMG will not be accepted.
  • Following the deadline, the submissions will be passed to the judging panel who will pick the winner according to the rules under ‘What are we looking for?’
  • The winner will be announced on 22December and will receive a brand-new pair of Apple Airpod Pro’s, which we will send to an appropriate address with their consent. Their submission will feature in our Data Protection Day campaign in January 2021.
