Christmas shining light
Fundraising postman Jonny Wilson has been recognised for his charitable efforts and being a key worker for the country by taking part in the switch-on of Norwich’s Christmas lights.
Jonny, from Norwich Delivery Office, had a starring role in the virtual ceremony, which is the culmination of a video that demonstrates to the city’s residents that it is open and safe this Christmas.
Norwich City Council invited Jonny and other key workers – including a firefighter, police officer and NHS deputy sister – to take part in the video, alongside a host of local celebrities including film stars Stephen Fry and Olivia Coleman and Steve Coogan as Alan Partridge, plus footballers from Norwich City.
Press play to hear what Jonny thought about taking part and how he has raised more than £5,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, by letting his hair and beard grow all year, as well as doing his deliveries in fancy dress during the height of Covid-19. He even has one special surprise left up his sleeve for Christmas this month!
‘To be a part of the ceremony – I didn’t think I was worthy – it was incredible,’ he said.
