You can also see an interview with St Albans colleagues here on this week’s RMtv – winners of the Fleet Workshop of the Quarter award for Q2.
Royal Mail’s chief engineer, James Baker, visited St Albans to present the award to the winning team.
He said: ‘It was really great to meet the St Albans workshop team and congratulate them in person on winning the CEO and COO Awards Fleet Workshop of the Quarter award - a great team effort,’ he said. ‘Well done and I hope to visit again soon!’
We listened to your feedback and have made some improvements to this year’s awards.
In 2020/21, there are 64 awards across the UK per quarter. Sixty of those awards go to delivery units (30 in the north and 30 in the south) across the three categories of: Small Delivery Office of the Quarter, Large Delivery Office of the Quarter and Most Improved Unit of the Quarter.
Parcelforce Worldwide and International have been welcomed to the awards for 2020/21 and the awards that were previously grouped under ‘National Operations’ have now been split into four separate categories: Processing Unit of the Quarter; National Linehaul Unit of the Quarter; Fleet Workshop of the Quarter and Parcelforce Worldwide Depot of the Quarter.
This year sees a return to the data driven, performance-based approach of last year’s 2019/2020 awards.
The five measures that units will be assessed on over the coming year – each with equal weighting at 20 per cent per measure – are: Safety, First Class Quality, Cost, Productivity and Parcel Composite.
Presentations are underway across the UK, to celebrate the achievements of our highest performing units, a number of which have significantly improved their performance during the pandemic.
Keep an eye out for interviews and features about the winners on www.myroyalmail.com over the coming weeks.
Charity begins at home
Goldworth Park Delivery Office, winners of the 2019/20 CEO and COO Award for Large Delivery Office of the Year – are donating £2,000 of their prize money to our in-house charity, the Rowland Hill Fund (RHF).
When the office won their CEO and COO Award, delivery office manager, Michael Curlis, said his team’s strengths were ‘communication, building relationships, getting on well with each other and understanding how we all fit together.’
Speaking about their incredible donation, Michael said: ‘The whole unit with support from the CWU Rep, Dave Percey, felt very passionately that we would like to donate £2,000 to the Rowland Hill Fund.’
Shan Lawrence, Rowland Hill Fund co-ordinator, said: ‘Thank you to Michael and the team at Goldsworth Park Delivery Office for such a generous donation. This has been a difficult year for so many colleagues, and this donation will make a significant difference to helping those dealing with illness, disability and debt.
‘Fundraising this year has been challenging with the impact of Covid-19, so now more than ever, every penny counts.’
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the RHF has helped a number of colleagues who have had to stay at home due to coronavirus and are currently on either no pay or half pay because they are unable to work, and furlough is not an option. This may also apply to their partners and/or other members of their households.
In these cases, the RHF has been making weekly charitable donations to colleagues until the current situation changes. In addition, the Fund will continue to provide support for other financial challenges, such as bill arrears, mortgage payments, rent, disability aids for adults and children, funeral expenses and more.
The RHF is an independent registered charity, here to help our employees, pensioners and their dependents with financial and other assistance in times of need. The Fund offers support for short-term and long-term financial and health challenges and for when the unexpected happens.
For more information on how the Fund can offer financial help to colleagues, Royal Mail Group pensioners and their families, call the confidential helpline on 0345 600 4586.
