Heckmondwike customer's mini Royal Mail van is on display in Selfridges

To assist Selfridges with their world-famous Christmas window launch, we arranged a photo shoot outside our ‘Royal Mail at Selfridges’ space with two local postmen.

Greg Dacosta and Anil Bolakee from Mount Pleasant Delivery Office were photographed outside the beautifully designed window, which includes a tree made out of letters and various post-themed paraphernalia.

Our special partnership with Selfridges for Christmas – ‘Royal Mail at Selfridges’ – will be an immersive experience spanning store and online, which will launch to the public in December.

Selfridges has unveiled its latest Christmas window displays despite being forced to shut the doors of its physical stores for the next four weeks of lockdown in England. The retailer has temporarily closed all of its stores as part of the second lockdown, apart from its Oxford Street food hall.

When the luxury London department store reopens after lockdown and in line with Government guidelines, it is hoped that customers will be able to buy loved ones presents and have them professionally wrapped, as well as take advantage of a bespoke postal service. This will enable Selfridges London customers to have the gifts they buy in store delivered by Royal Mail. Customers will also be able to write and send letters directly to Santa, with an in-store Santa Mail service.

As part of our ‘Royal Mail at Selfridges’ dedicated space, a mini ‘Postman Pat’ Royal Mail van will be on display within the store. Alton Tyrell, a customer in Heckmondwike, built the van complete with cat from the iconic children's TV programme from a converted electric scooter in a bid to make people smile.

Earlier this year, when dozens of videos circulated around social media of Alton driving his van in Morrisons, a McDonald’s drive-thru and on his local high street, we got in touch to ask if we could display the van in Selfridges.

Alton rode the vehicle into Selfridges on 3 November, just days before the second national lockdown started. Hopefully, customers will be able to admire it when shops reopen for Christmas.

An exclusive product range has also been created for the partnership, which includes branded mugs, festive baubles and more. The range will be available to buy online from 17 November at www.selfridges.com.
