Recognition for Ben Green in National Apprenticeship Awards

Deployment manager Ben Green was Highly Commended in the National Apprenticeship Awards 2020 regional finals in London.

Ben was nominated for the Rising Star Award, which celebrates apprentices that have made ‘impressive progress in their career to date and have the potential to go even further.’

To be eligible for the Rising Star Award, apprentices must either be currently undertaking an apprenticeship at any level or have completed their apprenticeship within the last two years.

The awards kicked off on Monday 2 November, with online ceremonies taking place throughout the country to celebrate apprenticeships and the benefits they bring to individuals, businesses and local communities.

Out of more than 1,100 entries received for the capital alone, Ben was one of two nominees chosen for the regional Rising Star Award (London). After joining the awards ceremony online, Ben said: It’s an incredible honour and real privilege to be Highly Commended, particularly given the extraordinary strength of the field this year. To be successful against such strong competition is amazing.

‘I must pay tribute to the enormous contribution made by all my colleagues at Royal Mail who have supported me consistently whilst giving me some amazing opportunities during my apprenticeship. The recognition for my achievements solidifies Royal Mail as an employer which provides a number of fantastic development programmes that myself, colleagues and future apprentices have and can continue to benefit from.

‘Apprenticeships allow you to gain valuable and significant work experience whilst simultaneously gaining relevant and recognised industry qualifications. The blended learning an apprenticeship offers enabled me to thrive and flourish in a safe, supportive and professional environment, stretching and challenging myself to complement and support my development.

‘Having just successfully offboarded into a substantive role, I look back on my two years as an apprentice recognising how it’s been a real journey and a hugely enjoyable experience.’

Ben’s line manager, portfolio supply and demand manager, Sue McCallum, added: ‘One of the most significant benefits of apprenticeships for employers and employees alike is that they help organisations keep their employees motivated and committed for the long-term.

‘By helping them develop their skills over several years, apprentices can work in the knowledge that at the end of their apprenticeship, they will have a qualification that is tremendously valuable, both to them as individuals and to Royal Mail Group as an employer.’
