The U.S. Government's most senior representative in Scotland, Principal Officer Ellen Wong, joined colleagues virtually after more than 100 pastries, cookies and cakes from Breadshare community bakery were delivered to the team.
Principal Officer Wong organised the surprise delivery to say thank you to colleagues who have played a key role in ensuring services at the U.S. Consulate General could continue to run during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our people have not only ensured that American citizens living in Scotland could get their voter registration information to state registration offices, but will also play a key role helping to return ballots over the coming weeks ahead of the presidential election on 3 November.
The U.S. Consulate General in Edinburgh has been accepting ballots from American citizens to be returned by diplomatic pouch.
‘I am so grateful to staff at Royal Mail - and our local Edinburgh East depot, in particular - for all their hard work and assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic,’ said Principal Officer, Wong.
‘The U.S. Consulate General in Edinburgh genuinely could not have continued to serve American citizens in Scotland without the help and dedication of Royal Mail staff.
‘Not only have they helped deliver US passports and ensured Americans can still receive key documents, but they have also played a vital role in ensuring Americans living in Scotland can exercise one of their most important rights – the right to vote.
‘I know I speak for all Americans living in Scotland, as well as my colleagues at the Consulate, when I say a huge thank you to Royal Mail and its employees for the work you have done and will continue to do.’
Delivery office manager, Keith Fraser, said: ‘A huge thank you to the U.S. Consulate for this kind gesture and recognition for our frontline colleagues.
‘The team in Edinburgh East have played a key role in fulfilling mail deliveries during these unprecedented times and have worked tirelessly to ensure the customers we serve have received excellent service, particularly during the past six months.
‘The team work hard all-year round and this recognition for the effort they put in every single day is greatly appreciated. I am extremely proud of the team.’
