Proud to present

At our first-ever Diversity & Inclusion Network Celebration Event, it was announced that our Disability steering group has a new executive sponsor – national distribution director, Nick Dunn.
Today, interim disability network chair, Suzanna Bailey, introduces Nick and speaks to him about his new role.
‘Welcome Nick,’ said Suzanna. ‘Can we start with an introduction and an insight into your background, so we can all get to know you.
‘I’m a proud father to Sophie and husband to Sally,’ said Nick. ‘I’m also a keen rugby fan, although Ireland’s recent performance has been below par. But onwards and upwards is the way to go.
‘I joined Royal Mail in December 2018. Prior to this, I spent 21 years with Tesco, the last four of which were as the UK Transport Director.
‘I’m delighted to be the sponsor of the Disability steering group and I bring a commitment to improve on the inclusion of people with disabilities across our business.’
When Suzanna asked Nick what diversity and inclusion means to him, Nick answered: ‘The importance for me is for colleagues to feel confident and open about their disabilities without being judged or defined by them.
‘Our disability network hasn’t had a sponsor for two years now, so I would say my initial challenges are to get the steering group up and running again. By working with like-minded colleagues around the business who want to make a difference and champion disability-related issues, which are important to all of us, I believe we can really improve the experience of disabled colleagues at Royal Mail.
‘We already have great functional teams who champion diversity and inclusion, particularly in regard to disability-related matters. We already reach out to many of these teams by sharing best practice and communications and I hope we can continue to do so to help shape our agenda in both directions.
‘Our aim as a network is to provide easy-to-access information and guidance to colleagues who have a disability of any kind. My experiences and early engagement have shown that we’re a group of very passionate individuals who want to make a difference. I truly believe we can.’
